A massive explosion near Delhi’s iconic Red Fort on Monday evening has left eight people dead and at least 24 injured, prompting authorities to place several major cities — including Mumbai, Kolkata, and Uttar Pradesh — on high alert.
🔥 What Happened at Red Fort?
The explosion occurred near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station, close to Chandni Chowk, one of Delhi’s busiest commercial areas.
According to early reports, a car parked near the metro station suddenly exploded, triggering a fire that quickly spread to three nearby vehicles.
The Delhi Fire Department received an emergency call at around 6:55 PM and immediately dispatched seven fire tenders and 15 CAT ambulances to the scene. Firefighters managed to control the blaze after several hours of intense efforts.
🚑 Casualties and Emergency Response
Officials confirmed that eight people lost their lives in the blast, while 24 others sustained injuries, many of them critically.
The injured have been rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Forensic teams and the National Security Guard (NSG) are currently examining the blast site. The entire area around Lal Qila Metro Station and Chandni Chowk has been sealed off as security forces investigate the incident.

🕵️ Possible Terror Link Under Investigation
While the cause of the explosion is still under investigation, it coincides with a major security operation earlier in the day. Authorities had reportedly busted an interstate terror module linked to banned organisations, seizing over 2,900 kilograms of suspected ammonium nitrate — a chemical commonly used in improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
Officials suspect a possible connection between the Red Fort blast and this terror module, which allegedly planned to unleash multiple attacks across Delhi using the seized explosives.
⚠️ High Alert Across Major Indian Cities
In the wake of the blast, security alerts have been issued nationwide, especially in high-density urban centers and sensitive zones.
- Mumbai: Police have stepped up surveillance and intensified vehicle checks at railway stations, markets, and airports.
- Kolkata: All police units are on high alert, with strict security checks at metro stations and crowded public places.
- Uttar Pradesh: CM Yogi Adityanath has directed police to increase vigilance across the state, particularly near religious sites and border areas.
- Dehradun and Haryana have also enhanced patrolling and screening measures in public areas.
According to Amitabh Yash, Uttar Pradesh ADG (Law and Order):
“All senior officials have been instructed to increase security at sensitive locations. Patrolling and vehicle checks are being intensified across districts.”
🛡️ Security Measures and Public Advisory
Authorities have urged the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information. Delhi Police have advised citizens to report any suspicious activity or unattended vehicles immediately via emergency helplines.
Travelers are also advised to avoid the Chandni Chowk–Red Fort area until further notice as investigation and cleanup operations continue.
