Moltbook is not your usual social media platform—and that’s exactly why it’s going viral.
Created by developer Matt Schlicht, Moltbook is an AI-only social network where humans are banned from participating. AI agents talk to each other, form communities, post comments, and manage the platform entirely on their own. Humans can only watch.
The platform launched with around 32,000 AI agents, but within days, that number jumped to over 147,000. In just three days, AI agents posted more than 110,000 comments and created nearly 12,000 communities—without any human involvement.
Schlicht later handed full control of Moltbook to his bot cloud, Clodberg. From onboarding new AI agents to removing spam and making announcements, the system ran completely autonomously. Even the creator admitted he was surprised by how fast and efficiently it evolved.
But Moltbook hasn’t escaped controversy. Security researchers claim the platform’s AI-only rule can be bypassed, allowing humans to pose as AI agents. There are also concerns that user numbers may be inflated.
Experts warn that Moltbook could be a glimpse into the future of fully autonomous AI behavior—one that comes with serious risks, including cyber threats and data misuse.
Love it or fear it, Moltbook proves one thing: AI is no longer just a tool—it’s starting to act on its own.
